Black and White Monoprint Circles and Squiggles, Surface Design

Black and White Monoprint, © 2015, Sheryl Karas
This is probably my favorite art for product design. It was done using the conventional monoprint technique of painting with ink on glass and then making a print. I love the way this looks on so many products, especially on Red Bubble. Here are a few favorites:

Society6 also has some nice products including this comforter:

And totebag:

Believe it or not, this started out as a photograph of foxtails in a field of grass. But now it is a somewhat psychedelic digital pattern in multiple colors, mostly blue and green, on white. Red Bubble seems to have the best selection of clothing, scarves, home and office decor and device cases for this design. Here are a few samples:

I used a photograph of mine of foxtail weeds in a field and then did a variety of Photoshop tricks to turn it into a wild repeating pattern. I can make it available in almost any background color but I thought tan looked especially nice for clothing. For example, this chiffon shirt  and scarf from Red Bubble

I used to make quilt designs in paper using a variety of handmade and Japanese papers. This one, I thought, translated into a decorative surface design for a variety of creative purposes. For example, it makes a nice scarf from Red Bubble:

Believe it or not, this started out as a photograph of wild grass and weeds in a field. Then it morphed into something more decorative. It was designed specifically for use as a fabric or surface design for device covers or housewares. For example, I like it on this pillow from Red Bubble:

Blue, Purple and Black Paint and Grass Pattern

Well, I am definitely going to need help in naming my new patterns! But this is what it is called right now. This is a digitally-created pattern made by layering a photograph of weeds and wild grass over a photograph of paint splatters and then digitally manipulating the result to create this repeating pattern. You can find it on a variety of products on Red Bubble.

Here is what it looks like on a chiffon Red Bubble shirt.
